Angela Paul- Gaito

Born in France, to a West African mother and a French father, Angela Paul-Gaito brings a rich cultural heritage to her new role on the board of the D.A.F.T Organization. She was raised by her fiercely independent grandmother and spent her summers in Dakar, Senegal. This diverse upbringing instilled in her a deep appreciation for multiculturalism and the importance of community.

After graduating from the Alvin Ailey dance center, in the late 90’s, Angela then pursued a career as a professional dancer, touring internationally where she met her husband. In 2007, she moved to Newburgh and has since raised two children in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District. Her firsthand experience with the impact of urban poverty on education has given her a keen awareness of the opportunity discrepancies within a socioeconomically diverse population. Angela loves the city's diversity and culture but recognizes the need for true equality in America.

Angela has been teaching Pilates in the Hudson Valley since 2009. In 2012, she created her own business in Newburgh: APG PIlates LLC. As an instructor and a teacher trainer, she has also created multidimensional "Kids Nights" at her studio, offering children a chance to try Pilates, painting, pottery, karaoke, french lessons and more, while giving parents a night off. Her commitment to supporting local businesses is evident through her organization of yearly shop small events and the development of a tourist brochure to promote Downtown Newburgh shops and restaurants.

In 2024, she founded Wellness Shines On LLC to expand upon the annual wellness festival she created in 2021. This initiative aims to expose inner-city neighbors to local providers and practitioners, fostering a healthier community.

Angela's volunteer and community leadership experience is extensive. She served on the board of directors for the Newburgh Illuminated Festival, establishing and running a highly successful performing arts stage on Safe Harbors Green. She is a tireless supporter of Newburgh, frequently sought out for her insights and participation as a passionate community member, mother, entrepreneur, woman of color, and leader. As a board member of Safe Harbors of the Hudson since 2017, Angela contributed to various community events and provided donation-based classes for residents and locals. Her efforts with the Armory Unity Center, the Newburgh Performing Arts Academy, the SHRED Foundation, the Newburgh Free Library and the Desmond Center for Community Engagement and Wellness on the Mount Saint Mary Campus, further highlight her dedication to enriching the lives of Newburgh's youth and residents.
